According to reports by the Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF), the National Bank (NBU) will be recommended to liquidate the two problem banks: Zakhidinkombank and Interbank.
On the announcement of the search for potential investors to restore solvency of Zakhidinkombank and Interbank, a potential investor for Interbank subsequently refused to buy the insolvent bank, while Zakhidinkombank has not received any application from potential investors. Thus, the DIF has decided that the most efficient way of removing insolvent banks from the market is to liquidate them.
Portfolio of retail deposits in Zakhidinkombank by 1 April, 2014 amounted to UAH 367 million, in Interbank – to UAH 120 million. Their total liabilities amounted to UAH 532 million and UAH 536 million respectively. According to the National Bank of Ukraine, by April 1, 2014 Zakhidinkombank and Interbank by their total assets occupied respectively 117th place (UAH 760.454 million) and 129th place (UAH 607.173 million) out of 181 effective banks in Ukraine.
